Acne Scar Revision
Acne scar revision treatments can vary depending on the extent and severity of the scarring. Generally speaking, treatment consists of a combination of topical treatments and procedures. “Fresh” scars that are still red and hyper pigmented scars (or dark spots) can often be treated with microdermabrasion, Refinity peels, or bleaching cream. Micro-dermabrasion (also called a power peel) and laser skin resurfacing are non-invasive cosmetic procedures that refinish the look and texture of the skin. Multiple treatments are necessary for optimum results. Bellafill® is approved for the correction of moderate to severe, atrophic, distensible facial acne scars on the cheek in patients over the age of 21 years.

Dr. Rajagopal discusses the v beam laser for treating acne scars on Kron4:

Deep, pitted acne scars need to be excised (removed by scalpel), stitched, and then treated with dermabrasion. During dermabrasion, the outer layer of skin is scrapped away while the patient is under general anesthesia. Unlike micro-dermabrasion, which does not require any downtime or recovery, dermabrasion leaves the treated area red and swollen for a few days. There might be some pain during the recovery from dermabrasion, but it can be controlled with prescribed medications. FRAXEL laser, Deep FX, or a CO2 laser treatment can also be effective in treating deep, severe, and/or older acne scars.

Since each patient has different needs, a skin evaluation at the San Francisco Plastic Surgery and Laser Center is needed before purchasing any of these skin care products.
