Now Offering CoolSculpting!

coolsculptI’m thrilled to announce that the San Francisco Plastic Surgery & Laser Center now offers CoolSculpting! CoolSculpting is an exciting new technology that uses targeted cooling to attack fat cells while leaving the rest of the body’s tissue unharmed. Unlike most fat reduction techniques (like liposuction), it’s a completely non-invasive approach. No surgery or needles are involved—hard to believe, I know, but the FDA has cleared it for use, and it’s getting great reviews so far!

The technology for this new approach was created based on science developed by the Wellman Center for Photomedicine at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA. Research has demonstrated that fat cells are more susceptible than other cells to cold, and because of this scientists hypothesized that they could find a way to promote weight loss by freezing—and thereby killing—fat cells without harming surrounding cells. From this idea, CoolSculpting was born.

During a CoolSculpting procedure, we use a non-invasive applicator to deliver precisely controlled cooling to the fat in the desired treatment area. Once the fat cells die, they begin to shrink and disappear, and the body eventually lets go of them completely on its own, making invasive removal of the fat unnecessary.

Treatments take from one to two hours to complete, depending on how many places you wish to target and how much fat you wish to remove. You may only need one treatment, or you may want more. Some patients start to see results as soon as three weeks post treatment, though the most noticeable results generally don’t reveal themselves until two to four months later.

We really are thrilled to be able to offer this breakthrough, non-invasive new treatment at our offices—it’s always exciting to find new ways to help our patients feel good about themselves, and even more so when the procedure is as easy and painless as this one. And remember, we’re always happy to answer any questions you might have about our procedures, so if you’re curious to learn more about CoolSculpting, don’t hesitate to give us a call and set up a free consultation!
