Dysport San Francisco
San Francisco Plastic Surgery Center now offers Dysport (Reloxin). Dysport consists of the same basic ingredient as Botox which is Botlulinum Toxin A. Reloxin is currently being used in Europe under the name Dysport. Both Dysport and Botox have similar mechanisms of action.
How does Reloxin compare to Botox seems to be the question everyone is asking. Since the active ingredients are the same, the products are very similar but not identical. In a recent study, Reloxin was shown to last for an equal duration but was shown to spread farther than Botox when injected.
This can be both an advantage and disadvantage to the patient depending on which muscle group is targeted. In large muscles such as the forehead, you want the toxin to spread whereas in small muscles you do not want it to spread because it could affect neighboring muscles unfavorably.
Some doctors report that Dysport starts working faster and lasts longer, of course Allergan (who makes Botox) says that Reloxin does not work as well.
With another alternative to Botox, patients are hoping that this will lead to lower prices. Allergan may choose to drop the price of Botox to compete with lower costing Reloxin.
Medicis Corporation also makes Restalyne and Perlane, which are very popular hyaluranic fillers.
